Le Update is French for "The Update"

Oy, I am such a shit blogger. *self flagellates*

Big news first: School is not happening this semester. Why? Logistics. I cannot seem to get to the campus in under an hour and a half thanks to Northern Virginia traffic. I thought I had planned class times reasonably, but apparently I was a bit, um, off. Disappointing, yes, end of the world, no. I'm not going anywhere, and I can always re-enroll either at this school or one closer by. Also, I got most of my money back, so yay! I can fix my car and it's Blinking Engine Light Of Doom.

The headaches had become a constant hum of pain and nausea, so a doctor's visit was in order. Ok, is it just this area or is it me, because every. single. front desk person I come across is the rudest bitch evAR. This one wouldn't even look at me, not even ONCE, opting instead for the charming "mumble and shove paper at them" customer service technique. I may have rolled my eyes at her and sarcasmed because pain? Makes me intolerant for rudeness. Actually, I'm still pretty intolerant under normal conditions. Silence is acceptance, people. Loud sarcasm is...um, always an appropriate response? I may not have thought this philosophy towards rudeness through all the way.

Anyway, a nurse took me to the examination room, violated me with various thermometers and cold metal things and then left without so much as an, "I'll call ya." The doctor I met with did a little examining and a little questioning and came up with...it's possibly tension headaches. I need to get some blood tests done to make sure it's not a kidney thing or anemia and then schedule an appointment with a neurologist. The drugs she prescribed me are ok. As long as I take them at regular intervals the pain stays away.

God! Now that I've brought everyone in the room down, how about some happy stuff? Like, I don't know, THREE DAY WEEKEND! Also, in light of stressful, painful and annoying life circumstances, I have thrown out the knitting projects I'm not too keen on and am working on a simple, relaxing log cabin baby blanket. For another coworker. One of the few I don't hate. "Interesting" picture of the 9"x9" square coming soon.

More good news: Corporate has just announced early dismissal, so I get to leave at 3:00. This means yarn shopping!

Friends from Minnesota

Yay! Happy fun times with a couple of the old BFF's from Minneapolis.

Here they are mulling the extensive beer menu at Brickskeller.

Bret and Michael

I'd do a whole, "aaaaaand they're available!" but, um, no. They are mine. Back off.

We went out for crabs. Mmmm. Well, mmmm until I puked them back up after drankin' waaaaay too much. Damn cute bartender and his never ending supply of alcohol (imagine that).

This beauty quickly turned...

Such a clean and civilized beginning.

...into this:

Cue heavy metal music and a naked man with a lampshade on his head. Peeing on the rug.

Beers were also served with the crabs (no, really), thus leading to ritual crab humiliation.

At the Smithsonian Natural History museum we came across the slickest, baddest mineral of them all.

DOOOOOOOOOOLEMITE!

We went around to the monuments. Here's the three of us at the World War 2 memorial next to the best pillar of all. Yeah, that's right. THE BEST.

Who brings the sexy? WE DO.

Here's some cute.

And finally, awesome readers, here's to you.

Still Alive

Just nothing new to report. UNTIL NOW.

Here's what's going on. Please excuse the blah-ness of this entry. Our office coffee maker is broken. As is MY SPIRIT. That last part might be totally work related, though.

First, a picture of the baby blanket and it's recipient.

p1010030.jpg

My headaches are still in effect. They aren't lasting as long, but they still suck. I am 99% sure they are tension headaches, not allergy headaches, because work? SUCKS. Hopefully (really hoping here) this is just temporary. In fact, I'm sure my headache woes would be over even faster if I, say, murdered one of the bitch whores who's pissing me off lately. Ok, just kidding about the homicide. A girl can dream, though...

Knitting is eh. I came to the heartbreaking conclusion that baby weight superwash baby wool is really not a great choice for fair isling. Way too stretchy and deceiving, especially if you are "impaired" like I am. I don't have pictures, but imagine a dangling, puckered mitten cuff and a pair of scissors looming over it.

So now I'm making a scarf. That's right, a scarf in May. You wanna make something of it?

I have my first day of school tonight. More later as the situation develops.

OH! I we got a new camera! See, the current one fell in the snow back in January and since then has been a pain in the cooter to work with. Also, it takes crap pictures.

Here's our new shiny:

Ok, that's it for now. Oh, one more thing, I got the new Interweave Knits. All I got to say is mmmmmmmmmmmmeh. I will make nothing from it.

Ow...

The theme today is "Ouchies."

Terrible tension headache. That's two in a one week time period! Not. Fair. This headache feels like I'm wearing Hell's Headband of Fire and Squeezing. And I think taking Advil just pisses it off. The headache is all, "Oh wtf Kim. I can't believe you even tried that shit. Zap! I pain you mo'!" The last time I had this headache (six days ago) I ended up taking Advil, Aleve, Excedrin Migraine and finally Leftover Painkillers from The Dentist. I think by the time I got to the painkiller, the headache just got bored and left.

Last night I used my new epilator for the first-and-a-half time (I do not want to talk about the first-first experience. I'm sure time will heal my emotional scars.). I only did up to the knee, but it still took AN HOUR. Folks, that is an hour of pulling leg hair out by the roots. WILLINGLY. This is just more proof that I am an insane, spendthrift, and vain masochist.

Joking aside, it wasn't really that bad. On a scale from one to ten, one being "shocked by the car door," and ten being "anally raped with a cattle prod," I would place this at about 3. Which is, "snapped with a rubber band over and over." And weirdly, you get kind of used to it, to where you stop wincing uncontrollably and unconsciously curling into the fetal position with hot tears streaming down your face, and even go over the same spot more than once. It's alright. And now I don't have to shave from the knees down for a while. Yay! (Do you think I should post this as my Amazon review?)

Ok, the headache is beginning to give me it's lovely side effect, nausea. At least I have silky smooth calves!

PS

What's the best type of yarn to use for fair isle? I think the stuff I have is too slippery and stretchy.

Check it out

I was too lazy to run to CVS, so I knitted a condom.

It's stockinette for her pleasure.

Sike! It's a leg. What's that? Yes, a leg.

Hi! I'm rainbow-y! And bloody expensive to make!*

See? It's Spherey from the Jess Hutch book. I made him using some Noro Iro that's been marinating in my stash. Great quick project, I bammed him out on Saturday in about five hours.

I won't jinx my current project by talking about it (too much), but it's honing some hard earned skills. Hard earned. May be a while before we get it up on the blog.

Oh! And I have room in my stash box(es) for more yarn now! I like, need to buy more! I'm thinking I will make a One Skein Wonder. This will be the first yarn buying for an actual project since my order from Knitpicks for Sesame.

*I believe the kanji character for Noro is "$$$$"
